Remember the last time you woke up feeling super stressed, wishing you could fly off to Mars?
Ha! That’s like every other day for some people. You don’t even have enough time to express all the coolness you learn from this fly blog.
Creating a balance between your work and personal life can be a big deal. The reason for all the stress, less productivity, and unhappiness, maybe as a result of an imbalanced work-life. If you can recount different times our earlier mentioned scenario had been you, then here are 7 ways you can create a balance in your work-life.
Tip 1: Work smarter, not harder
According to The Guardian, “working smart involves allowing yourself a certain amount of time per task – and trying not to get caught up in less productive activities, such as unstructured meetings that tend to take up lots of time.” Access everything that needs to be done, get clear on the objectives and create structures to aid your flow.
Tip 2: Set rules for yourself
Create a mental handbook for yourself with regulations and boundaries. This should include exercising, eating right and sticking to a cool hygiene. You can check out our post on Hygiene that may be affecting your health, to help you decide what practices help you stay cool. Decide when to put away mobile phones and computers and just rest. Let your rules align with your personality.
Tip 3: Be friends with scheduling
Make time for everything. Have a personal schedule and a work schedule. Let the work calls and emails remain on the work schedule. Your personal schedule…make that a pile of cool stuff upon cool stuff. Make your schedules in order of relevance. This way, you don’t miss out on important stuff like birthdays and anniversaries. Additionally Business Collective advises that you schedule some “me time” into your calendar.
Tip 4: Don’t overwhelm yourself by taking on more
Avoid saying yes 24/7 without thinking about it. Sometimes you can’t take on an extra, it’s okay to say ‘no’ once in a while. If a new request is not priority, let it be and face what’s more important. Prioritizing on the job and with everything else is key. Do what’s more important at the time and give it your full concentration. We know you’re a cool hard working guy, but don’t take on more just because you’re trying to prove that point.
#Tip 5: Relax: It helps: Webmd recommends that you build in more fun and relaxing activities into your schedule. Spend some time doing things you enjoy or going on vacations. You don’t need to blow all your savings or go very far, just turn off cell phone and computers and have fun. Create opportunity to socialize with colleagues. Organize office karaoke, game nights, retreats etc. Throw in an extra something to make work fun, like lunch break games.
Tip 6: Get a mentor
Speak to an expert in your field. Ask questions on how to succeed and develop in your field. Having a mentor can help your journey be a lot easier as you grow your career. They can help deal with some of the issues that drag on your mind.
Tip 7: Learn to delegate
Delegation is a great strategy for achieving a better work-life. You have to learn when and how to delegate effectively to take some pressure off you. This would afford you enough time to do some other work, and make some other people responsible for some those tasks. Rather than shutting down every other aspect of your life just to drown in work, let others do some of the job.
There guys! Being cool encompasses every aspect of your life, so creating a balance is key. Achieving a work-life balance is a continuous process. This is because at different phases of our lives, we’d have different needs, and we need everything to fit in. Also, don’t forget to do a review every other time to be sure you’re still on track.
Got any practical tip you would want to add to the list?
