Established in 1959, Babcock University is located in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State. The private Christian university is affiliated with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and is well-known for its moral discipline of students in an effort to produce individuals of high ethical standards.

6. Afe Babalola University (ABUAD)

ABUAD was established in 2009 and is located in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. Here is another modern private university in Nigeria with a decent and conducive environment for learning. It also boasts of cool sporting facilities as well as a fantastic eatery for students and staff. 3. University of Lagos (UNILAG)

The University of Lagos is reportedly one of the most competitive tertiary institutions in terms of its student admissions. It’s also believed to have one of the largest student populations in the country with approximately 57,000 students in 2013 according to Wikipedia.

The university is notable for producing the current Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who once commended the university for moulding him to become who he is today.

2. University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN)

UNN is one of the finest federal universities in the country. Located in Nsukka, Enugu State, the university’s campus environment is quite decent and very conducive for learning.

Not many people know this, but the institution goes down in history as the site of the first open heart surgical operation in Nigeria. This was performed in 1974 and was celebrated as a great feat in medical science in Nigeria. UNN also happens to have the oldest law faculty in Nigeria and it’s definitely a nice place to visit.

 

1. University of Ibadan (UI)

This is the oldest university in Nigeria, being established in 1948. According to the 2017 Global Ranking of Universities by the Times Higher Education, the University of Ibadan is ranked at number 801 amongst the best 978 in the world. It happens to be the only Nigerian universities to make the list, a great feat indeed.

The university is also notable for producing prominent people in the country.
